Eligibility

Who can participate?
Students in primary (age 10-12) and secondary (13-18) classrooms across Canada can participate.
When must enrollment be received?
To enroll into the KWN program, Panasonic must receive the enrollment package from the classroom teacher by December 13, 2018. However, the sooner the schools send their enrollment package, the sooner they are able to start the fun stuff.
How can my school participate?
To officially enroll in the KWN program, complete the following forms found in the registration kit:

  • School Registration Form (Appendix A)
  • Equipment Rental & T-shirt Order Form (Appendix B)

How much involvement can the teachers and/or parents have in the production of the video?
All video footage must be the original work of the participating students, including the planning, screenwriting, film shooting, and editing. The teacher’s involvement should be limited to guidance with critique and encouragement.

Equipment Rental

How do I apply to rent equipment?
Please complete the Equipment Rental form included in the registration kit when enrolling your school.
When will I receive the equipment?
Once we have received your Equipment Rental form, we will mail out the equipment. Make sure to leave time for the mailing process.
What equipment will I have access to?
  • Video Camera
  • SD Card
  • Headphones
  • KWN Merchandise (T-shirts, Vests, Badges)
Do I have to pay for equipment rental?
No. You do not have to pay for equipment rental. Panasonic is thrilled to share the latest technology with your classroom.
What equipment do I have to return?
Please return all equipment you have rented by May 10, 2019. You are not required to return any of the KWN merchandise.
Do I have to pay for shipping?
No.

Judging

What are the school categories?
  • Primary Schools include students aged 10-12
  • Secondary Schools are students aged 13-18
What are the video themes?
The three themes for videos are:

  1. Ecology
  2. Communications
  3. Sport
What are the judging criteria?
K-Factor Points:

  • The K-Factor is a score determined by how well the video portrays a kids’ perspective in viewing “The World Through Their Eyes.” This should reflect the simplicity and directness that characterizes children’s work.

Expression Points:

  • Concept, story, and impact

Technical Points:

  • Production
  • Post-Production

Submission

When is the deadline to submit the final project?
February 20, 2019 by 5 PM EST
How do I submit my video?
When you enrolled in the KWN program, Panasonic emailed:

  • A link to download the Project Submission Kit
  • A unique link to submit the video and script

Use the unique link to upload your video file, English script, and group photo (jpeg file, no larger than 2MB).

What documents need to be mailed?
  • Video Submission Form (Appendix 1 – Submission Kit)
  • Production and Copyright Consent Form (Appendix 2 – Submission Kit)
  • Parent/Guardian Consent and Release Form (Appendix 3 – Submission Kit)
How do I know the video and forms have been successfully submitted?
You will receive an email confirmation.

Production, Permission, Copyright

Additional details on production, permission and copyright

All video footage must be the original work of the participating students, including the planning, screenwriting, film shooting, and editing. The teacher’s involvement should be limited to guidance with critique and encouragement.

Copyright of the submitted video shall revert to the school. However, for purposes of generating publicity for KWN, the broadcasting rights, editing rights, and reproduction rights shall rest with Panasonic.

Submissions may appear in print, broadcast, web or social media, publicity or advertising. (Editing or other processing may be performed as required.)

In respect to copyright, please observe the following rules:

  1. As a general rule, music and images should be original or copyright free.
  2. For field shooting, the participating school’s KWN team should arrange prior authorization for using and airing any filmed subjects and locations.
  3. If the school uses any copyrighted materials, written permission from the rights holder should be obtained and all credits should be stated accordingly in the submitted video.
  4. Panasonic will not be liable for any copyright infringement in the submitted video.
  5. Participating school’s KWN team must submit signed consent forms for the Production and Copyright; Parent/Guardian Consent and Release Form.
